With the Apple launch event today, the release date of the iPhone 15 is expected to be confirmed as September 22, 2023. The much anticipated phone will be available for purchase by United States, United Kingdom and Indian customers, at that time.

There is a lot of specification data, which we will be covered extensively elsewhere, but we are primarily interested in the best iPhone 15 audiobook apps. This is for those of us who NEED our audiobook fix during long commutes, boring classes and meetings, and doing everyday tasks.

To us, the best upgrade for this phone is the switch to a USB-c cable. No more finding the right proprietary cable for that particular model ! Thanks to whomever that was who forced Apple to change.

So to listen to audiobooks, we have 5 apps that work well, and have great features. Some are paid, and some are free. There is a trade-off between paid and free apps. If you want ease of finding what you are looking for, or you need the latest great audiobook for a road trip, then a paid app is the best way to go. If you are not as interested in the latest, greatest horror novel, then you can probably find a lot of great titles in the free apps.

Caution: The biggest issue with listening to audiobooks on a smartphone is memory capacity and data usage. In most cases, we recommend a streaming service that does not store the book on your iPhone. Face it, if you download a Game of Thrones audiobook at 53 some odd hours length, your phone is going to be mad at you. Make sure, though, you have access to WiFi when streaming or an unlimited data plan.

Here are our 5 Best iPhone 15 Audiobook Apps:

1) Amazon’s Audible (Paid)

Audible is Amazon’s premium content service for audio content. There are 3 paid levels (Premium, Premium Plus, and Premium Plus – 2 credits) that allow you access to all of Amazon’s Original content, all of the podcasts, and the audiobook library. The credits allow you to get one premium book per credit.

– Audiobooks bought with credits are yours to keep

– Variable playback speed available

– Sleep timer available

– Very large selection of titles (300k as of this writing)

– Books are stored on Amazon, not on your device

– Seamless experience

2) Bookplayer (Free)

Bookplayer is an app available for free download from Apple App store. It is not a library, rather a player for audiobooks you already have. So, if you have a collection of audiobooks sitting on your hard-drive, then Bookplayer is the app for you.

– Works with AirDrop to load audiobooks on your iPhone

– Not streamed, so memory can be an issue

– Variable playback speed available

– Sleep timer available

3) Apple Books (Free)

Apple Books is a free app available from the Apple App store. The app allows you to purchase audiobooks from the Apple App Store, or upload your own audiobooks. You can also preview many of the titles before you purchase.

– Uses AirDrop, iTunes, DropBox or your email to load audiobooks on your iPhone

– Streaming audiobooks and offline use available

– Variable playback speed available

– Sleep timer available

4) Google Play Books (Free)

Google Play Books is a very similar service to Apple Books. It is a free app with many free titles available, and you have the ability to purchase audiobooks, as well.

– Streaming audiobooks and offline use available

– Variable playback speed available

– Sleep timer available

5) Libby (Free)

Libby is an audiobook, ebook and digital magazine service that allows you to “check out” titles from their library with nothing more than a library card.

 – Streaming and offline use available

 – Books are automatically returned on due date (7, 14 or 21 days)

– Variable playback speed available

– Sleep timer available

– Need library card from public library to check out content

Viv Ramos del Castillo

My name is Viv, and storytelling comes naturally to me. Whether I'm writing about distant lands or everyday life, I love capturing moments that make the heart swell or the mind ponder. I've always had a vivid imagination, and as a child I'd make up stories to tell my cat while I sipped my afternoon earl grey tea. As I grew older my tales found their way onto the pages of journals and eventually, into the hands of readers. There are no rules when it comes to my writing. I simply follow my curiosities, writing about whatever catches my eye - be it a colorful leaf floating by or an interesting conversation overheard. My stories wander freely without concern for genre or trendiness.
